A planning proposal in Malpas has generated controversy. The application is for 8 dwellings by Stephens and Stephens in an old quarry. Residents are not happy about the proposal. “Malpas resident Lesley Ibbotson, who represented MALPAG, a pressure group f 100 houses. She said: "Malpas is a dying village - we have an ageing resident population and we are outnumbered by holiday properties and second homeowners."
Other points - Stephens and Stephens build high value luxury properties. There would be no affordable dwellings but a contribution is planned for affordable housing elsewhere.
Parking provision will consist of spaces in the bottom storey plus three vehicles per dwelling in front.
The application raises a number of questions.
Why more luxury dwellings – they are probably going to end up as second homes, holiday lets rather than meet local need.
Why so much parking? Odd particularly with the reference to Improving green travel links.
The proposal highlights one of the elements of the dysfunctional housing market and planning system.
